This could happen with a compromise (most common issue) but can also be user error or an account issue.
We offer a disconnected backup solution. Why disconnected? If you use the same credentials as your 365 then if you have a compromise then the backup is also at risk.
Our method has nothing within YOUR system. Data is taken directly from the 365 server and replicated on the backup server. There is no direct access to the backup from your (compromised) system.
